My ninth Taste of Hartford visit found me at Hook & Ladder on a cold, misty, Scotland Yard kind of night. You can see the raindrops in the photo.
There was ample parking in the back of the building, a real bonus in Hartford.
The restaurant’s entrance was located off an attractive corridor that bisected the building front to back.
Inside Hook & Ladder, we encountered a wealth of firefighting memorabilia and paraphernalia.
My wife and I found the restaurant a very relaxing place to dine. We liked the look of the lounge,
the bar area,
and the main dining room,
where my classy wife waited for me expectantly.
The restaurant staff was welcoming, from manager Kristy
to our cute waitress Jamie
to this other cutie whose name I didn’t catch.
Even the clientele was extremely friendly.
We expected good things of the kitchen as well.
For the Taste of Hartford, Hook & Ladder offered a three-course meal plus choice of soda, coffee or tea. We decided to hold off and have coffee with our dessert. For starters, we had a choice of side salad, creamy tomato soup, butternut squash soup or New England clam chowder. The butternut squash soup was tasty and so old-fashioned-thick we could have eaten it with a fork.
The New England clam chowder was traditional and creamy.
There were three entrées from which to choose. We didn’t order fried chicken with mashed potatoes, choosing instead potato-encrusted tilapia with rice and broccoli,
and our favorite, a nice tender juicy steak served with macaroni and cheese.
From Hook & Ladder’s dessert tray,
three choices were available to Taste of Hartford diners. We didn’t try the Toll House cookie pie, instead electing satisfying slices of carrot cake
and chocolate cake.
And then it was time for comforting cups of hot coffee.
Hook & Ladder will be continuing to offer its Taste of Hartford menu through the end of January. Let Hook & Ladder put a smile on the face of your own cutie pie.
