So far, Connecticut has two Tilted Kilt Pub & Eateries, one in Wethersfield that has been open a couple of years and one in Milford that has been open just a couple of months. This is the exterior of the one in Wethersfield.
For those unfamiliar with the Titled Kilt chain that started in 2004 and now has about 90 outlets around the country, the restaurants, like Hooters, feature friendly, sexily clad servers. Rather than orange hot pants and tight white Lycra shirts, Tilted Kilt’s servers are dressed along a Celtic schoolgirl scheme.
The eateries are sports themed,
and like Hooters, more family-friendly than one might think.
The Wethersfield restaurant is full of Celtic memorabilia.
The food is way better than you might expect. Choose from good draft beers like Lagunitas
and Ten Penny Ale.
Starters include a mixed appetizer,
fried calamari and dipping sauces,
drunken mussels
and this chicken pesto flatbread.
For a reasonable upcharge, main dishes may come with a house
or Caesar salad.
Main dishes might a Swiss and mushroom burger,
a French dip sandwich,
the Gaelic chicken (from Milford
and from Wethersfield),
fish and chips,
shepherd’s pie
and a terrific 12-ounce rib-eye steak.
For dessert, we enjoyed a fresh chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream
and a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie also topped with vanilla ice cream.
I can’t say enough about how friendly and good-natured the servers are.
Sometimes they will even plunk down with customers at their tables.
Heck, watching them at work may even give you the urge to help out.
Customers having birthdays seem to enjoy posing with the Tilted Kilt girls,
and even some customers whose birthdays are months away.
The same management owns both Tilted Kilts and apparently the rights to all of Connecticut. Reportedly, more outlets are planned.
