The serene Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan is one of Connecticut’s most historic and beautiful, inside and out.
My companion and I asked to be seated in the lounge
by a window with this idyllic view of the patio.
Our server Mario Montes,
whom we recognized from the Ibiza restaurants, brought us a wine list and menus.
My companion requested a glass of white wine,
I a glass of red.
Slices of bread
and monogrammed tubs of butter
followed soon after.
For her first course, my companion ordered a refreshing Belgian endive salad with watercress, Anjou pear and candied walnut in a Roquefort dressing.
I the luxurious housemade foie gras terrine,
a slice of satiny foie gras
with an apple and fig chutney,
a Cumberland sauce gelée flavored with currants and apricot
and toasts.
For our entrées, my companion chose the butter-poached Maine lobster with wilted baby spinach, wild mushrooms and potato galette,
I the duo of Cabernet-braised short rib and sliced sirloin au poivre with truffle scalloped potatoes and jumbo asparagus.
For our desserts,
my companion selected decaf
plus the warm molten chocolate cake
I a cappuccino
plus the vanilla gelato and fresh fruit in an almond basket.
As we were leaving, we admired the porch seating
and this vintage Deux Chevaux in the parking lot.
