Located across the road from Huntington Fire Co. No. 3 in Shelton,
the Huntington Street Café has a few tables in front
as well as on the back porch
overlooking Means Brook.
Inside the cafe,
customers order at the counter off the blackboard menus (click on photos to enlarge).
Other products of interest are on display, including various drinks, coffees,
teas,
and even beers and wines.
But we have come for Huntington Street Café’s steamed cheeseburgers and the music.
Signage is everywhere, advertising everything from music events
to tarot card readings
to poetry.
So while we await our burgers, taking in details like the funky colorful ceiling, we enjoy some fine jazz.
Then our food arrives,
dispelling any lingering notions that the steamed cheeseburger phenomenon might be limited to the Meriden-Middletown-Cromwell environs.
Huntington Street Café’s burgers are flavorful, juicy and greaseless. Some steamed cheeseburger joints use a too-mild cheese, but these burgers are just the way we like them. We dally over our burgers and soaring jazz notes, then head back to our car, observing that even more people are enjoying the tables in front than were when we arrived.
