Yankee Magazine recently anointed The Farmer’s Cow Calfé & Creamery in Mansfield
the best dairy bar in New England. It’s definitely onto something. The Farmer’s Cow is a six-farm cooperative, whose members are on display on a high wall in the café.
People stop by The Farmer’s Cow to “take a little cow home today”
or to linger long enough to eat. In either case, customers queue up
for counter service.
Those who stay take seats
in the adjoining dining space
or outside.
It’s a favorite stop for kids.
Feeling reborn as kids ourselves, we paused at the milk bar to enjoy all-you-can-drink milk in normal and exotic flavors,
like this cup combining hazelnut milk and white chocolate milk.
We relished a creamy Cheddar and broccoli soup
and a sparklingly fresh Greek salad.
We followed that up with a veggie wrap
and a sharp Cheddar, bacon and tomato panini,
both of which came with a pickle spear and Mystic Chips.
We then made a trip back to the counter for ice cream, checking out the available flavors
and toppings.
I finished with a sundae with three exotic ice cream flavors and butterscotch whipped cream,
my daughter with a simple order of ice cream.
So stop by, as we did, and get a little cow.
