Connecticut Restaurant Week, October 2011 (7B)—High Rollers At Foxwoods

After a great visit to Shrine at Foxwoods, my friend and I felt a little like the Jetsons as we took a combination of corridors, escalators and people movers to High Rollers Luxury Lanes & Lounge,

the second of our three Connecticut Restaurant Week visits planned for that evening (all of which were represented on this sign).

We approached reception,

who took us to comfortable high-backed white chairs from which we could peer out at our fellow guests.

And then this angel named Kristen appeared, and we knew we were in great hands.

We put in our Restaurant Week order, after which I explored my surroundings. For those who don’t know, High Rollers is a glamorous bowling alley and lounge with an innovative menu and two full-service bars.

Yep, that’s marble all right.

I checked out the bowling lanes,

where the bowlers tended to be dressed a little more tastefully than I was used to.

In addition to bowling, there were people playing pool,

and there were numerous other games available in the recesses of the corridors.

By the time I finished making the rounds, our Restaurant Week bounty began pouring in. The $20.11 special began with a choice of three beers, so I savored a Shipyard Pumpkin, the rim of the glass lined like a margarita with cinnamon sugar,

while my companion enjoyed a Pitch Black IPA.

Next, we chose our appetizers, sharing a clever Philly spring roll of shaved beef and onion with spicy ketchup and cheese sauce dips (click this, and all photos, to enlarge)

as well as possibly the best and sweetest onion rings we’d ever tasted,

which were battered in High Rollers Ale and served with a secret sauce. Finally, we chose our main courses, which included a terrific High Rollers burger and housemade potato chips

as well as a classic tomato and Mozzarella pizza,

shown with extra fixings

and in close-up.

The price was irresistible, the food delicious, the portions generous. Add to that caring management in Tom Sweeney

and our charming server Kristen

and we couldn’t have been happier. It was pretty obvious that everyone there was having a great time.

High Rollers will bowl you over.
