Chip’s Family Restaurant In Wethersfield Is The Latest Addition To A Growing Family

The Chip’s Family Restaurant brand is expanding. The original Chip’s opened in Orange in 1966. For years, that was enough. But current owner George Chatzopoulos, recognizing that the Chip’s brand had much broader potential, subsequently opened outlets in Fairfield, Trumbull, and most recently, Wethersfield. A Southbury outlet is scheduled to open later this year.

Chip’s built its fame around breakfast. The offerings are extensive, including appealing pancake combinations, build-your-own-pancakes with choice of buttermilk or whole wheat batter, Belgian waffles, French toast, delicious omelet combinations, build-your-own omelets, an enticing assortment of egg dishes, a health & fitness section, and plentiful sides.

We especially embraced the customizable pancakes, choosing our own batter, fillings, toppings, and even, syrups. And who could resist a German omelet with kielbasa, potato, Swiss cheese, spinach and onion, especially if it was accompanied by home fries and whole wheat toast?

But Chip’s wants you to know that it isn’t just about breakfast. Chip’s fully embraces dinner, offering soups, salads, appetizers, sandwiches and even full-fledged entrées. And based on our visit to the gleaming new Wethersfield store, you may even find that a terrific salad bar awaits you. There are also gluten-free and all-natural menus. Not to mention dessert specials worth a listen.

The Chip’s brand is on the move, successfully bringing new customers into the fold.

THE VERDICT: We like Chip’s Family Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner—but especially breakfast.
