Eighty-five years ago, Frank Pepe began selling his popular “tomato pies” in New Haven, and that simple venture grew to become the world famous Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana on Wooster Street. A few years back, the Pepe family began to recreate the exact recipe, coal ovens and baking methods in Fairfield, Manchester, Mohegan Sun, and Yonkers, New York (and coming soon to Danbury). Visiting the New Haven original is still almost a religious rite for a legion of fans, but most agree that the new locations are spot on.
