Over 100 Connecticut entrepreneurs and artists gathered at Durham Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Since RestaurantstCT.com and this attached blog are also “made in Connecticut,” we felt it was important to get out and cover the event.
It was a pretty good start for this first-time event, with nice sunny weather for the crowds that showed up. There was a great variety of displays and real fun was had by all the guests, who paid a $3 admission fee. There were a number of activities aimed at children.
Food trucks lined the eastern edge of the fairground and there were several food-related displays, but not the number one might have hoped. Where were the sausage manufacturers, the soda producers, the potato chip makers, the winemakers, the brewers, the distillers, the chocolatiers, and countless others? Let’s hope there will be greater representation of producers of food products in the years to come.
THE VERDICT: The Made in Connecticut Expo is off to a pretty good start with the potential to grow into a major event in years to come, but more work is needed to attract Nutmeg food producers.
