Madonia Restaurant & Bar In Stamford Serves Delicious Modern Mediterranean Food

When I was home from college in the 1970s, I sometimes visited my college roommate in Stamford. But except for the cinema, there was nothing to do and little to eat. Fast forward to 2011—and Stamford has become a cultural Mecca, with great offerings like this Joan Baez concert at the Palace

and fine dining from downtown to its farthest reaches.

At one of its farther reaches, you’ll find Madonia Restaurant & Bar, a “modern Mediterranean” eatery located on Long Ridge Road a little north of the Merritt Parkway.

Shake off the unending drizzle in the foyer,

proceed up these steps,

and find the bar area

or the dining room,

unless you’re attending an event in the private function room

or the wine room.

My wife and I came to Madonia for a special press dinner. We were greeted by welcoming owner, Enzo Bruno,

and then joined friends of ours at one of the tables reserved for the occasion.

At our places was a menu hinting of great things to come.

Nice bread was brought to our table.

Then we were started with glasses

of a nice Prosecco,

which accompanied our first course—a terrific crab cake with roasted pepper rémoulade.

Next came a nice Riesling,

which went beautifully with our second course, an autumn salad with field greens, roasted beets and pears, Feta cheese and fresh figs in a balsamic vinaigrette.
